Today is the first day I'll be able to drive my car in three weeks. I had knee surgery on my left knee three weeks ago, and haven't been able to drive it since.......because manual. I'm so happy to get to drive it again, even if it is only to go to PT. Here's a pic of it, and the garage is much cleaner than it was then.

Do you have another auto car? How did you get around? That's one of my biggest fears is ruining my knee and just not being able to drive my car. (I have completely irrational fears)

That's actually a rational one. I fractured my right hand a few months ago...then bought a manual last month. I've been terrified of hurting my hand again and requiring a cast.

My knee has actually been really bothering me for a while, but I have not had it looked at because I don't want it to be something that would keep me from driving for a while. It already sucks on long trips so maybe I should just bite the bullet....

I find that it's possible, albeit extremely difficult, to scoot around shifting with the other hand. Not something I'd want to do for a long period of time, though.

Oh man. Clutch withdrawl is a hard thing to deal with. Glad to hear you are back in the car.

Completely rational fear. I have been out of work, don't go back until beginning of September, on sick leave. We have been using my wife's odyssey. I've had to drive it to PT a couple of times, but I would much rather drive my car.

Me too. It felt so good to drive it again.

Mine was locking up on me completely. I wasn't able to walk some days. I had to get the surgery because my job involves being on my feet almost all day.

Yikes!! What sort of knee surgery did you have? I had ACL & meniscus reconstruction/repair a couple years ago and I was driving 2-3 days later when I stopped taking the heavy pain meds.

Actually it was a meniscus tear. If it was not my left knee plus the the manual transmission I would have been okay. I have driven the auto Odyssey a few times, just couldn't push the clutch in with the left knee. I've had a lot of trouble with this knee in the past too,so I didn't want to risk anything.
